30 Day Test Ride

All the convenience of buying online, without the risk
When you buy a new bike at full RRP from rutlandcycling.com, you can now benefit from the added reassurance of our Rutland 30-day test ride. Once your new bike arrives, you can ride it as your own for 30 days, and we're confident you'll love it! However, if it's not right for you, we'll exchange it for another model. (There's a nominal charge of £10 for us to collect your bike - just make sure you keep the box your bike arrived in.)

On which bikes is the 30-day test ride available?
The Rutland 30-day test ride is available on all full price, non-discounted bikes available for home delivery on rutlandcycling.com. It is not available on discounted or special offer bikes, click and collect bikes, bikes bought on finance, bikes bought through Cyclescheme, or bikes bought in store. This offer is only available on bikes delivered to mainland UK addresses.

How does the test ride work?
Your 30-day test ride starts from the date your bike is delivered. You must notify us by email within 30 calendar days of delivery that you intend to return the bike within this scheme. This offer applies to all bikes purchased on or after 14th August 2014. To ensure you remain eligible, we would ask that you adopt a 'fair usage' attitude during the test ride period, and make sure there is no damage to the bike outside of the minimal wear you would expect from a bike ridden for 30 days or a few rides. Please note that any damage to the bike, including damage from incorrect assembly, will invalidate the test ride.

How many times can I use the 30-day test ride?
We will allow up to two exchanges within this scheme.

This is a really nice e-bike but a few things stop it from getting 5 stars. 1. I was disappointed that there was no fitting for a water bottle cage. 2. The electric gears are nice and easy but only work with the battery on. I assume that the battery will never be flat enough on a ride for the gears to stop working, but I dont know if this is the case. 3. The front mudguard bottom fixing is a clip and the mudguard rattled. Ive cured this by applying silicone sealant between the mudguard and the fitting (inside of the mudguard so it doesnt show) Ive ridden the bike for about 130 miles so far, my longest ride being nearly 50 miles. This was a fairly hilly ride with my Garmin recording 2,223 ft elevation. At the end of the ride I still had 2 bars left on the battery gauge so Im guessing you could get 70 to 80 miles range on hilly roads. There are 4 settings, Off, Eco, Normal, High. I tend to ride the level roads with it positioned at Off, switching to Eco, Normal or High when needed. The bike rides very nice with the motor switched off, but if you are used to a road bike you will find the bike a bit slower as the top gear is lower. This is understandable as road bikes tend to have 20 or more gears and this only has 8. Overall the gearing is good but you wont want to be pedalling once you reach about 22 mph as your legs will be spinning too quick. The saddle is comfortable, the bike feels very stable and in my view is very well built. The built in lights are driven by a front hub dynamo and they are surprisingly good (they are small lights) and light up the road ahead even when riding under street lights (and cars tend to dip their lights when they see you). When you stop both the front and rear lights stay on. The brakes are hydraulic rim and work very well. They have a quick release lever in order to loosen one side so that the wheel can be removed. Generally Eco mode is good enough for small hills at the beginning of your ride when you are fresh, Normal mode is great for most hills and as the motor drives through the gears, changing gear makes a big difference (a hub motor doesnt benefit from the gears) so for hills this type of drive is better in my opinion. Ive climbed some pretty steep hills easily with this bike and in High mode you turn the pedals without putting hardly any effort into it. Headwinds are no longer a problem, just put it into Eco or Normal mode depending on the wind strength. The motor only works below 15.5mph which can make the bike a tiny bit jerky when travelling around this speed as the motor cuts in and out, but if you are able to pedal at 15.5mph you dont really need the motor on. The motor also only works when you pedal. I dont find this a problem as I still think of my e-bike as a bike. The bike comes with a rear carrier fitted, which doesnt have a spring loaded clip. It also comes with a front carrier which is not fitted to the bike. This carrier is quite large so if you need to carry stuff around it would be very useful. I havent fitted it to my bike as I dont need it and it would only be adding unnecessary weight. The bike isnt too heavy and is easy to lift. It feels very balanced when lifting as the battery and motor position are central and fairly low down. One good thing with the electric gears is no rear derailleur and extra cogs to clean. To sum up I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this bike. I now have the freedom to go wherever I like, where I used to be restricted to routes where the hills were gentler.
