A powerhouse of the cycling component world.
Shimano account for nearly 50% of all component sales. What does this mean? It means Shimano offer some of the world's most popular and loved products. Established in 1921, Shimano offer nearly a century of manufacturing expertise but it wasn't until the bike boom of the 1970’s that Shimano started to cement itself as the world's best component manufacturer.
At Rutland Cycling we can't wait to see what Shimano develop next. If we think you'll love it, it will find its way into our already massive range of Shimano products, both in-store and online.
Since the 1970’s, Shimano's dedication to creating the best possible components has given birth to some of the most amazing and commonly used items in cycling today. Did you know that the first freehub was developed by Shimano? Today it's hard to imagine any bike without a freehub (apart from fixies). ""What else?"" you ask, how about STI integrated shifters, indexed shifting, cassettes that shift under load and the most popular clipless pedal design, SPD. Yep, all those were pioneered by Shimano!
Today, Shimano offer one of the largest ranges of technical bike components, whether you’re a competitive road racer looking for that competitive edge or an avid adventurer seeking reliable, high performance mountain bike gear. Shimano are constantly pushing the development of cycling, most recently the introduction of Di2 electronic gears has taken the world by storm.
