Almost one and a half centuries of expertise goes into every Brooks product. Established in 1866, Brooks became one of the world's very first premium saddle manufacturers in the 1880s after the unfortunate death of Mr Brooks' horse led to a stroke of inspiration. Unable to afford a new steed, he borrowed a bicycle to commute to work. The seat was so uncomfortable; he vowed to do something about it.
Over the next century, Brooks crafted every single saddle by hand using traditional techniques passed down through generation after generation of dedicated craftsmen. Every one with the same fundamental Brooks design, a premium leather top stretched over a metal cantle plate and nose piece, all held together with steel or copper rivets. To this day, Brooks still hand craft every single saddle with the same timeless design.
To craft the very best leather saddles, you need the very best leather. Brooks only use the finest leather from the butt of the hide, this results in a consistent and reliable performance for every rider. Although these saddles are slightly heavier than their modern plastic equivalents, the long-distance comfort is a worthwhile trade-off.
