The only mountain bikes tailored for the UK's dire riding conditions.
Back in the 1990s Whyte's founder complained to Shimano about how easily MTB components wore out. Shimano took his comments so seriously they sent experts from Japan to find out why British riders managed to destroy components so much faster than any other riders. Shimano found that the UK's often wet, acidic soil was quite possibly the worst terrain on earth for mountain biking. This inspired Jon Whyte to create bikes capable of surviving and thriving in this hostile landscape known as Britain.
Ever since Whyte have created bikes built for UK riders, ignoring all other concerns such as marketing and finance to listen to what real world riders want. This led to Whyte pioneering "new school" geometry with slack angles and low bottom brackets merged with long tubes and short stems. The result? Some of the nation's favourite trail bikes, due to their totally engaging and never sluggish ride.
Every Whyte bike since they were founded back in 1994 has been designed to tackle UK trails and have often created whole new riding genres with the introduction of the quirky PRST-1 and legendary 46 which continues to this day in it's modern day form as the Whyte 146.
In addition to revolutionary Geometry, every Whyte mountain bike combines the latest technology with gorgeous aesthetics and British-inspired design features, including acres of mud clearance and bearings so tough Whyte offer a lifetime guarantee on every single one.
At Rutland Cycling we love British-inspired design, which is why we use Whyte bikes on our hire fleet as well as offering an extensive range in-store and online. Better yet, you can test ride selected Whyte bikes, making us the UK's best Whyte dealer.
