About Alex

You know you are a cyclist when most major decisions you make are based around a bike. If I live here, where will my bikes go? Can I sleep in this car at bike races and will my other half leave if I break the washer machine cleaning dirty riding gear. These are some of the questions that staff member Alex has to ask himself. Usually turning a pedal most days, Alex is keen to fulfil his ambition of actually completing a race without either the bike or himself breaking.

Testing…Trek 3700 2013 Product Review | Rutland Cycling
The Trek 3700 Disc is a popular sight at Rutland Water as it’s been the staple on our hire fleet for a number of years, providing hundreds and thousands of miles of simple off-road fun for so many different types of riders. Trek say their 3-series bikes are the world’s best-selling mountain bikes, too, and [...]
Ask the Bike Doc: 9. “Headset nightmares!”
PM: Hi Bike Doc, my bike has an integrated headset and tapered headtube. Firstly, can a headset be replaced? Secondly, how do I tell which size it is, and thirdly, if it is too much work to replace it at home can you buy replacement cartridge bearings? Bike Doc: With all the different shapes and [...]
Rutland Cycling Demo Day 2013
This weekend saw Rutland Cycling play host to a launch of 2013 bikes at the Whitwell store and with over 70 bikes turning up from the likes of Trek, Orange and Pivot it was set to be a great day. A crisp summer like morning was a welcome surprise and provided some lovely riding conditions [...]
Testing…the Exposure Joystick Mk 6 front bike light – product review – 4/5
♥♥♥♥ 4/5 The Exposure Joystick has become a classic all-in-one bike light. It’s light weight, with a high-power beam and some very smart design features, and it’s just as good for evening commuting as it is for extreme night off-roading. Speaking of which…our staff rider Wiggy has been riding 24-hour endurance mountain bike events all [...]
A weekend racing bikes – Alex rides the Gravity Enduro
The rather eloquent saying, ‘poor preparation leads to poor performance’ rang true for me on an uncharacteristically sunny weekend in August as I took part in round 4 of the Fetish Gravity Enduro over at Eastridge. My intention was to spend Friday night at home relaxing and then set off early the following morning. Unfortunately [...]
Messing about on bikes – A day out on Rutland Water
Rutland Water and the surrounding area are often referred to as one of, if not the best family cycling destinations in the country. As a recent addition to the Rutland Cycling team my first couple of months have flown by and it’s been great fun working in such a fantastic area. Unfortunately as I commute [...]
Feeling the Pressure – our guide to bike tyre pressure for road, mountain, hybrid
Over the years I have spent many hours at community centres, schools and workplaces providing a Dr Bike service. Possibly the easiest and often one of the most beneficial ‘quick fixes’ that I perform during my bike fettling sessions is to inflate a bike tyre to the correct pressure. More often than not I will [...]
Stamford Cycling Festival
The weekend of June 30th saw Stamford play host to it’s first ever Cycling Festival organised by Rutland Cycling and Stamford Transition Town. The aim of the festival was to promote cycling and bring together a collection of exhibitors that helped us showcase all that is great about the sport. Over the course of the [...]
Rutland Cycling visits the Tour
Our very own staff rider Wiggy went over to check out some of the early stages of the Tour de France and take part in the Right to Play charity bike ride, as a Ride Leader. Here’s his diary and some video clips of the Prologue in Liege. The yellow jersey isn’t something people want [...]
