With the spring weather only just around the corner (we hope), and with the push for a healthier lifestyle as well as reducing carbon emissions, cycling to work seems the logical answer with the ever increasing fuel prices.
One of the ways in which you can help with the purchase of that beloved bike is to consider the various Cycle 2 Work schemes that are available at Rutland Cycling. With huge savings for you as an employee and for your employer, Cycle to work allows any employee to use a form of salary sacrifice in exchange for a bike and cycling accessories.
Recently the news was announced that cycling to work has now got even better for those considering the scheme, with the added option of purchasing accessories without the need to buy a bike. HMRC has confirmed that commuters are now able to buy helmets, lights and other safety equipment through Cycle 2 Work without including a bike in their request.
HMRC has clarified guidance governing the Cycle to Work scheme and confirmed that participants can obtain safety equipment and accessories without the need to include a bike in their request.
The usual limit of £1,000 will apply to ‘safety equipment only’ packages, with a £100 minimum.
The Government's Cycle to Work initiative has been widely regarded as a key driving force behind the cycle industry in recent years, as well as for encouraging commuters to get on bikes rather thanin their cars.
Cycle to Work provider Cyclescheme is now offering participants the opportunity to obtain ‘safety equipment only’ packages through its scheme.
