Altura's Morph Verso Backpack isn't your everyday pack, it's their first backpack/pannier cross bag. Although not the first to try the 2 in 1 combination, previous pannier/backpack combinations have been compromised. Either they performance more like a pannier or more like a backpack resulting in mostly uncomfortable or useless backpacks. The Altura Morph is different, by observing and learning they have overcome the problems of the category to create the first true hybrid pack.
Altura have achieved this by separating the backpack and pannier functions, on one side there is a comfortable, padded backpack that you'd expect any respecting bike bag to have while on the other side a solid performing pannier that uses Rixen-Kaul's proven mounting hardware. The result is a great looking bag that offers the best of both worlds and easily converts between its two functions.
Construction and Mounting
Hard wearing tarpaulin fabric ensures the Altura Morph Versa Pack will be long lasting and highly durable, making it perfectly suited to urban commuting, ride to work with the pannier bag then convert it to the backpack for the final trek to the office from the car park without the hassle of carrying unwieldily panniers.
Rixen Kaul's popular pressure fit system provides a secure hold when placed on any pannier racks. This mounting system has been angled to suit the right side of your bike to help add extra heal clearance - essential on smaller frame or compact geometry bikes. This mounting system is conveniently hidden behind the front panel of the bag when not in use, while in use this flap folds under the bag to provide a place to store the straps of the backpack to prevent them flapping into your rear wheel and keeps the bag's aesthetics clean and crisp.
Internal Storage Solutions
It's not just the convertible natural of the Altura Morph that is well though out, the internals of the Morph feature a whole host of pockets and sleeves that will satisfy even the most OCD person's storage requirements. The first compartment features padded laptop and tablet sleeves designed to hold up to 15" screen devices while leaving room for an A4 pad or diary and has enough room to keep all your riding essentials including a mini pump, multi tool and spare tubes.
The 2nd compartment is intelligently designed for storing your clothing, including a thin soled pair of street shoes - perfect if you ride clipped in - and space for the security essential, a long shackle D Lock. The 3rd compartment is designed for stationary and features pen ports and a key hook. A generously sized padded and fleece lined pocket is large enough for smart phones/glasses.
To boost storage space even more there are two mesh hammocks sewn into an additional thin sleeve for carrying your helmet and other large items when off the bike. Night time safety is boosted by the Altura Morph's reflective trim and graphics. There is also a small LED loop which allows you to attach a rear light to your bag.
All in all, the Altura Morph is both a good backpack and pannier without compromising on essential features you'd expect in either mode. If you're looking for an easy to use pannier that can be removed when you leave your bike and still be easily carried around town then the Altura Morph is for you.
