The Whyte E-180 S brings aggressive long-travel fun, to a new price-point.
Following on from the success of the E-180 RS introduction for model year 2020, and keeping the same uncompromised OTO geometry with the ultra-low centre of gravity which has had reviewers around the world complimenting it's handling, balance and control, Whyte have brought out the S specced version.
Up front you have the brand new Rockshox ZEB 180mm, 38mm sanctioned fork - the first bike which we'll see on our shop floors with this. The beefier forks are stiffer than it's predecessors which ultimately ends up with better tracking and steering. At the back you have the RockShox Super Deluxe Select R shock. A lightweight, highly tune-able air spring designed to offer a coil-like consistent feel - effortlessly soaking up the smallest hits and tracking the slightest changes in the terrain.
Bosch provide the complete system on the E-Series bikes from Whyte, with the Gen 4 Performance Line CX motor and purion display seen throughout. With the new software update for MY21, providing 85nm of torque, you will be hard pressed to find another motor which can get you up the hills as quick as this. Whyte do things a little bit differently from the others on the Bosch platform. There's no big hole in the frame to slot the battery in on the downtube, rather you slide the battery in from the bottom of the frame. This adds a tonne of strength into the frame, whilst simultaneously bringing down the weight. Not to mention that the reliability and unbeatable backup provided from Bosch make it a difficult choice to look elsewhere.
Following on with the reliability theme, all Whyte eMTBs now come with ebike specific steel freehubs, ensuring that the bike can now handle the increased power. The Main Pivot Bearings fitted to Whyte Full Suspension bikes are also warrantied for life (original owner only).
Now we've established that nothing's going to stop you getting out onto the trails - lets figure out what's going to stop you ON the trails. Sram provide the stopping power with their Code R 4 Pot brakes. 15 / 16mm pistons provide 15% more stopping power over previous models. There's 30% more fluid in the reservoir now - which means the braking power will feel the same no matter how long or steep.
