Dream bikes aren't just born, they are made with love and attention. Genesis' Zero Z1 is a teenager, willing to work hard to get you to the front of the pack with all the potential through smart upgrading to become something truly special.
By working with Genesis we've secured this special deal that not only offers the Zero Z1 2018 at an amazing price, but to offer it even cheaper than the frameset on it's own! Making this a bargain you won't want to miss.
Frameset
Unlike the thinking behind other affordable racing machines, Genesis decided not to skimp on either the Carbon grade used or cut corners on manufacturing. The result is the exact same, high stiffness 30/40T carbon frame found on the top of the line Zero Z3 and the bike used by Madison-Genesis team to high success.
Geometry has been taken from everything Genesis learnt with the Volare - a bike that proved that a great racing bike doesn't need to be carbon - and applied it to the latest carbon fibre construction techniques. This results in a feathery frameset weight of just 1.32kg with a re-assuring stiff feel under the pedals which makes you feel like you're flying past the competition. Comfort is drastically improved by the seat stays meeting just in front of the seat tube without losing performance.
Complimenting the frame is a stiff Carbon SL Road Race fork with a 1 1/8" - 1.5" tapered steerer for responsive handling when carving down the side of a mountain.
Components
While the Shimano Tiagra isn't going to be on the top of any professionals must have lists, it's impressive just how much Shimano have managed to trickle down from its pure racing groupsets. Gone are the old external cables for shifting, replaced with a cleaner, more aero friendly under the bar tape routing. Shifts themselves are crisp with a short throw on the lever similar to the previous 105 10 speed group. Tiagra's crankset uses the new chainring mountain system found on Ultegra to boost stiffness at the pedals. In fact apart from the number of cogs at the rear, it's hard to notice that this isn't 105!
Wheels are a crucial piece of any racing machine and Genesis know this, that's why they've gone away from the big brand name's entry wheels and built up their own package that offers higher performance for the price point. Joytech hubs with smooth bearings are laced to the mid-range Alex CX26 28H rim to create a responsive and durable wheelset that will last through entry level races and make a solid training option when you upgrade a high end wheelset as you progress up the ranks.
Genesis' own brand finishing kit is inspired by ergonomics to provide a performance and comfortable finish to this great package without sacrificing value for money.
Our Opinion
There is no doubt that I think that the Genesis Zero Z1 2018 is a great package for the money but even more so is the potential for upgrading. With the same frame found on their professional racing outfit roster, it's a simple task to upgrade the Zero Z1 as your racing prowess improves. There really isn't anything I could pick fault with on the Zero Z1 and a lifetime warranty ensures you can rely on the frame for years to come. It even comes with mudguard mounts, which is rare on a purebred racing rig. If I was being super picky though I wasn't a fan of the saddle but your mileage might vary.
