The Details

The Specialized Recon 1.0 MTB shoe combines and transforms Body Geometry comfort and efficiency into a durable, dirt-focused shoe.

Specialized Stride toe-flex technology features a nylon outsole that uses a TPU-injected forefoot for natural movement off-bike. Whilst still providing a stiffness index of 6.0 for in-the-saddle performance.

To create superior traction off the bike in wet or dry, gravel or dirt, the nylon outsole is covered in SlipNot compound. The heel is also lifted for a more natural feeling while walking.

The Recon mountain biking shoes feature three Velcro closures so it's easy to slip on, and offers a fit to maximise all-day comfort and performance for any type of riding.

  • Body Geometry sole and footbed
  • Injection Stride toe-flex technology
  • SlipNot rubber tread for confident traction on all terrain.

Our Verdict

Designed to create all-day comfort and performance, the Recon 1.0 MTB shoes are versatile and durable with excellent power efficiency.

Brilliant features from Specialized's Recon range are uncomprimised even at this sub-£100 price point. Expect a really grippy sole, toe box flex that makes hike-a-bike a breeze, and a shape that's so comfy there's no need for breaking in..

Footwear Size Guide

Purchasing a pair of cycling shoes for the first time can lead to a lot of questions. We at Rutland Cycling have over 30 years of shoe fitting experience, so here are some key pointers to look out for when buying a new pair:

1. When deciding what size cycling shoes to get, go with your normal shoe size, as cycling shoes typically run true to size. However, if you’re normally between sizes, for example sometimes you go with a 9 and sometimes a 9.5, it’s recommended that you size up.

2. The best time to measure your feet, or to try shoes on is in the afternoon, as this is when they will be at their largest due to your feet naturally tending to swell throughout the day.

3. Cycling shoes are intended to wrap snuggly around the foot as they have been designed with a specific purpose in mind—pedaling. The goal is to try and provide as much lower leg and arch stability as possible and provide you with a stable pedaling platform.

4. With the cycling industry largely originating in Europe, European sizing is the typical standard. The best way to figure out a specific brand size is use a that brand’s conversion chart. However, below is general sizing conversion chart based off conventional UK shoe sizing.

Remember, all sizing information is a guide only. If you have any questions about bike sizing, our expert team is here to help. Call us on 0330 555 0080, use our Live Chat, or email us.
