Oliver K asked us this common question during our Facebook Ask an Expert session (Fridays, 1-2pm):

OK: Hiya! Will specialised cycling clothing make a difference on a road bike, if I'm a beginner? I'm thinking of how big the wind resistance would be compared to say shorts and a t-shirt. Thanks!

Bike Doc: As you get fitter and faster you will notice that lightweight clothing will help. First things first though - get yourself some padded shorts! This will make life much more comfortable and will help you out immensly on the longer rides. Check out our beginner's guide to cycle clothing for lots more tips.
