How do I measure my height?

With your shoes off, stand upright against a wall, with your shoulders back and legs together. Use a pencil to make a small mark on the wall above your head - make sure you hold the pencil parallel to the floor. Then measure from the floor to your mark, in centimetres or feet and inches.

How do I measure my inside leg length?

With your shoes off, stand upright with your back against a wall. Place a book/ruler between your legs, level with your crotch. Then measure from the floor to the top of the book/ruler, in centimetres or feet and inches (it's easier if a friend helps).

Q & A

Do sizes vary for different e-bikes?

Some brands use a S/M/L system, some use inches, and others use cm. The table below includes all of these variations, to help you find the right size and compare across brands. Wheel sizes sometimes vary between sizes, too, with smaller wheel sizes used with the smaller frame sizes.

I'm between sizes - which E-bike frame size should I choose?

If your measurements suggest that two e-bike sizes are suitable, then in the end it's a personal choice - here are some rules of thumb to consider:

Road and Hybrid E-bikes - choose the smaller size. It is possible to make a smaller frame bigger (for example, by raising the saddle or fitting a longer the stem), whereas if the frame itself is too big for you, it's likely to be less comfortable and less efficient.

Mountain E-bikes - choose the larger size. You'll find a mountain e-bike with a slightly larger frame easier to handle than one that feels cramped. You can always fit a shorter stem if necessary, to reduce the reach to the handlebars.

Are frame sizes different for women-specific bikes?

Yes - for example, a Medium women's electric bike will be smaller than a Medium men's e-bike. However, the sizing itself is calculated in the same way, so a 54cm men's and women's e-bike will have the same frame size. Many e-bikes have unisex sizing. NB. Some manufacturers also change other aspects of frame geometry on a women-specific bike, to offer women a better fit. For example, women tend to have shorter upper bodies than men, so women's bikes can have shorter top tubes (the horizontal or sloping tube running between the handlebars and the saddle), to reduce the reach to the handlebars

How are E-bike frame sizes calculated?

An electric bike's frame size is calculated by measuring the length of the down tube (seat tube), from the top of the tube (where the seat post inserts), to the centre of the front chainring:
