Endura kindly decked Lucy out with some top winter wear for the cold months ahead. See how she got on with it below!

Endura AW19

With autumn well under way and winter incoming, I don't need to have any excuses to not be out riding over the colder darker months. Don't get me wrong, I love getting out but equally it's all too easy to find excuses and opt to stay inside on the colder days. I have decided I'm doing a mix of indoor training in the week along with a longer ride at the weekend, but to do this needed some good winter kit and Rutland Cycling have stocked me up with some really good winter items from Endura that I have really enjoyed testing. A note on kit - I only say yes to items that I actually need and will only write honest blogs and feedback on items that I receive.

I'm all about making meaningful purchases over buying lots of things I don't need! So, it has been good to stock up on some items which I genuinely needed for winter riding and that are quality items that I hope will last. I do feel good quality kit is worth investing in and over winter, so here is a little write up about each of the items I have been testing.

Endura Pro SL Womens Primaloft Gilet

The Endura Pro SL Women's PrimaLoft Gilet II is incredibly warm, keeping your core toasty when riding through the winter.

I absolutely love a gilet, its one of my go to items for cycling throughout the year. Having worn this gilet for a good few weeks I have been asked lots of questions this weekend about it and it's a piece of clothing I have been super pleased with. For winter riding and cold days I love this gilet because its so warm and cosy, I love the colour and it's a nice fit. It has a pocket in the back which makes it easier for getting out items you will need whilst riding - bars or nutrition etc. Its padded and warm, but is still quite light and so packs down small into a pocket. The padding is mainly on the front and so good for wind proofing, it has a couple of reflective pieces on the back to help increase visibility.

I also love the blue colour as it stands out but looks stylish too. It also matches my blue glasses and bike, I do love some colour matching! Its not water proof and so is more just for the colder days with no rain forecast. Equally its worth looking after it and paying attention to how you wash it to improve the item life span. Sizing wise, its true to size and a medium fitting me well as I would expect. Overall, a really great piece of kit that I most definitely will be using over the winter months.

  • Packable and lightweight insulation
  • Stretch windproof sides and hem panels
  • Super cosy for winter riding
  • Reflective trims
  • Lovely colour which stands out for winter riding

The first thing I noticed when I pulled these on was the zip, I wasn't sure what this was but it's a drop seat feature! Now at first, I was actually a little unsure about this, but it is actually a bit of a game changer. As many of my fellow female cycling pals will know, a trip to the loo requires almost totally undressing and in winter this can mean lots of unzipping to take off the many layers required when getting outside. That or getting your kit off in the woods!

The fabric is the '4-way high stretch windproof breathable fabric', that sounds technical but for me it was comfortable and with the right amount of stretch. Its treated with DWR treatment which helps with providing some water repellence and wind proofing. They also have some reflective parts to help with the visibility, the pad was comfortable and all round as a pair of bib tights they work great.

  • Good option of the drop seat for comfort breaks
  • DWR treatment to help with providing some water repellence and wind proofing
  • Reflective patches to help with visibility
  • A good fit for me and a comfortable pad

Endura FS260 Pro Adrenaline Race Cape II

The Endura FS260 Pro Adrenaline Race Cape is the ideal jacket to keep with you just in case.

  • Lightweight compact translucent breathable/waterproof fabric
  • Back panel allows race number to be seen
  • Lightly padded collar and storm flap
  • Full length centre zipper with sprung puller

Another winter riding essential, but this would feature as all round kit too. As usual I always find with good kit, you just don't notice it in wear and this is how I feel about this rain jacket. I like how small this rain jacket packs and it comes with a small bag to pack into which can then fit into a jersey pocket. Its also great because its so lightweight. Although black in colour, it has good reflective detailing on the cuffs and hems which stand out nicely. The fit worked well for me being a close fit but still fitting over winter items.

  • Light and compact
  • Stand out reflective detailing
  • Breathable

Baabaa baselayer and gilet

Base layers are another great piece of winter kit. In winter no one item is going to keep you warm outside, you need layers of kit. It matches my new favourite gilet which although many people wont see, I like! In terms of material, put it on and it feels comfortable as does the fit. The material is a merino blend, it dried quickly in wear and feels soft when you put it on, also not an itchy type material which you can find with base layers. As far as base layers go, it did the job nicely!

  • Natural merino blend
  • Feels soft and comfortable
  • High warmth to weight ratio
  • Dries quickly

You might be like myself and are trying to make changes to live as sustainably as possible. This includes making thoughtful choices in kit and items that are a good quality, that will last and that I will need and make full use of and use for longer therefore reducing the environmental impact. There are some points that Endura have considered on the sustainability front which really appeal.

PFC free

PFC is found in a lot of traditional water treatments. Endura have made the decision to remove this from their ranges. Repair service

Thoughtful packaging choices

A nice example is the base layer, packaged in a brown card which is widely recycled with no laminations adding a unnecessary layer of plastics.

Quality kit that will last

These items are good quality kit to support winter riding and that I hope will last. Otherwise they can be sent into the repair service for £15!

I have been cycling for around three years now, I started as I wanted to build some fitness for a charity challenge I was taking part in.

It all started on an old bike found in my parents garage that had seen better days, but short 10 and 12 mile routes gradually became longer and in six months I had ridden my first century, I remember feeling so proud! Things have moved on since and I now train for racing and time trialling. I was pleased to gain my 2nd category road race license last year and gain time trialling personal bests at 10 and 25 mile distances. I also rode my first 50 mile time trial. This year I plan on riding the Tour of Cambridge for the second time as well as taking part in the Ride London 100 mile event. I loved the Tour of Cambridgeshire and so am looking forward to giving it another good go!

I'm passionate about women's cycling and encouraging more women to have a go at racing and competitive events. We have a great team of women competing in my club Leicester Forest Cycling Club in a number of disciplines which is great to see and be part of, and I love sharing stories of your everyday riders and their achievements on my blog. Most importantly I just love riding my bike, seeing the countryside, trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle, being the best I can be and enjoying it along the way.
