Our recommended family-friendly cycling destinations within the Midlands and East of England offer miles of off-road cycling and great facilities to keep the family entertained all day.
One of the largest man-made lakes in the UK, set in over 3,000 acres of beautiful rolling countryside, a cycle around Rutland Water is a fantastic day out with plenty of points of interest along the route.
The cycle route around the reservoir, which is mostly traffic-free, is a 17-mile loop, or 23 miles if you cycle the Peninsula.
The terrain is suitable for all cycling levels, novice riders are comfortable cycling here.
There are several places to stop for refreshments along the route, including some great pubs, which makes Rutland Water an ideal destination for a full day of activities.

Nestled in rolling rural Northamptonshire, Pitsford offers a lovely blend of woodland, meadow and grassland, with spectacular views over the water from the cycle route.
The signposted, hard-surfaced seven-mile waterside track around the reservoir is suitable for all abilities, with plenty of places to stop and admire the views.
From out Pitsford store you can also explore the Brampton Valley Way – an old railway line between Market Harborough and Northampton. The route is traffic-free and is easy to follow with a café and pub along the route.
ust a few short miles from Huntingdon, Grafham Water is England's third largest reservoir nestled in 1500 acres of beautiful countryside.
With 10 miles of traffic-free waterside trails, a café and playground, it’s a great spot for a full or half-day with the family.
