How are hybrid bikes sized?
Hybrid bikes combine features of both road and mountain bikes, and they can be sized in inches (like mountain bikes), centimetres (like road bikes) or using a S/M/L system. A hybrid bike frame size is calculated by measuring the length of the seat tube, from the centre of the front chainring to the top of the tube (where the seat post inserts). NB. Sizes can vary slightly between manufacturers.
Hybrid Bike Size FAQs
With your shoes off, stand upright against a wall, with your shoulders back and legs together. Use a pencil to make a small mark on the wall above your head – make sure you hold the pencil parallel to the floor. Then measure from the floor to your mark, in centimetres or feet and inches.
With your shoes off, stand upright with your back against a wall. Place a book/ruler between your legs, level with your crotch. Then measure from the floor to the top of the book/ruler, in centimetres or feet and inches (it’s easier if a friend helps).
It is possible to size hybrid bikes in inches (like mountain bikes), centimetres (like road bikes), or using the S/M/L system. Hybrid bikes include elements from both road and mountain bikes. By measuring the seat tube's length from the front chainring's centre to its top, a hybrid bike's frame size is determined (where the seat post inserts). Note: Manufacturers' sizes can differ somewhat.
