Staff rider and masochist Wiggy has drafted a team into this year's Mountain Mayhem. He dropped a note to tell us how it's going?

With Just over a month to go, the 2014 mountain Mayhem 24hr Team event draws ever closer. Here at Rutland Cycling the staff riders have slowly been building up their training. Getting the long miles in off road is a key aspect to getting fit and coping with the rigours of such a large event. Mountain Mayhem is the largest 24 hr team mountain bike event in Europe and as such needs to be respected. Its no walk over.

The last couple of days for me have seen long road miles and a long off road ride in the rain and mud. Riding in the mud may not seem like great fun but for your strength and bike handling skills there is nothing better. I ride a Scott Scale hard tail 29er and its perfect for the English country side and for events like Mountain Mayhem. Fast on the flat and rolling over roots and rocks with ease. My top tip for anyone getting into cross country mountain biking is to make your wheels tubeless. A Stan's no tubes kit is all you need and the satisfaction you get from hearing your wheel puncture then suddenly seal is second to none. There really is no need to use inner tubes in mountain bikes these days.

This will be the first event Rutland Cycling have entered as a team so spirits are high and moral is good as we get ever closer. Nothing like 24hrs of racing to bring work colleagues closer together, or possibly break them if the weather is bad.
