The award

We are proud to announce that Rutland Cycling are the proud winners of the the Best Independent Retailer award 2013. The award, presented by cycling magazine BikeBiz, recognises the achievements of a British bike shop with ten or fewer shops.

This is the 6th year BikeBiz have offered awards, and there are now 18 categories to recognise the diverse achievements within the cycling industry.

The magazine asked people to send in their best experiences with bike retailers, and considered lobbying from distributors, retailers, journalists and readers.

Finalists were announced in August, and considered by the judging panel, which consisted of over 50 industry executives from various sectors. They scrutinised each retailer's customer service, product knowledge, range and in-store merchandising, and marketing activity.

The voting process was as comprehensive as Bradley Wiggins' Tour de France training regime. Judges voted in complete confidence, and will not be revealed until the November issue of BikeBiz. They were also prohibited from voting for themselves or associated companies.

Ansmann UK was backing the awards this year as Platinum Partner, Competition Partner was Cycleguard, and Retail Partner was ISPO Bike. Other event partners were Suarez, JVC and Cycle-S.O.S.

The awards ceremony took place last night at the Hilton Metropole, NEC, Birmingham, and has been described as biggest party in the bike trade calendar. The event this year saw none other than Ned Boulting collect an award on behalf of ITV for best 'Coverage by Non-Specialist Media'.

A display of vintage bicycles, which were kindly donated for the evening by the National Cycle Museum, were also available to be seen at the event.

Looking to the future

This is not an unprecedented occasion for Rutland Cycling, and we are proud to have won the award more than once. We took the award for the first time in 2010, announced at Holborn, and for a second year running in 2011.

Director David Middlemiss said, It is a great privilege to be awarded "Best Independent Retailer" as the award is voted for by people from within our industry.

We will continue to provide the best customer service we can, as well as a great range of products, and are already looking forward to next year's awards.
