Rutland Cycling's night ride is being taken over on Tuesday 18th March when local adventurer Sarah Outen will be coming to ride with our regular customers on the Giant bike currently on loan to her. As part of her preparation for her next adventure kayaking from Adak Island, Alsaka to the nearest road in Alaska- a distance of over 1500 miles, Sarah has been cycling in Rutland and Oxfordshire cross training with the bike on loan from Rutland Cycling.

Local girl and British Adventurer Sarah Outen will be leading cyclists through the muddy trails around Hambleton Peninsula and back to the Whitwell store for a talk on her adventures so far on 'London 2 London via the world'. Sarah will be talking about her adventure so far, with 'Pacific 2.0- 150 days alone on the wide, wide sea' being the focus of the evening. Every part of her journey is to be completed solely by her- by using human power alone.

Paul Archer, chairman of Rutland Cycling was there for a recent talk held at Oakham School. It was great to be able to hear about Sarah's story so far and to listen to her incredible journey with the highs and lows that come with this mammoth expedition. I was truly astounded by her accomplishments and we at Rutland Cycling wish her every success for the next part of her journey due to start in April.

Sarah will be flying out to the Aleutian Islands to start the next part of her London 2 London via the world after rowing solo across the Pacific Ocean. On her return to the Aleutian Islands, she will kayak the mammoth distance of over 1500 miles to the nearest road where she then intends on cycling across Canada and the States before rowing back across the Atlantic to the UK and ending her epic journey on bike to London with an estimated arrival of late 2015.

Although it might not be quite as adventuresome as Sarah's journey, Rutland Cycling is holding regular cycle rides. From April, our evening road rides will make a comeback for the summer months. Meeting at the Whitwell store from 6pm, the rides will usually last around 2 hours and are set at a leisurely pace.  The ride is free using your own bike and even if you don't own a bike, Rutland Cycling is offering discounted hire rates on bikes. Come along and join the guys at Rutland Cycling for an evening ride around the Rutland lanes. You are welcome to show up on the night however, if you require hire please call the store on 01780 460 705 to book your bike.
