This changes everything...

eMTB power meets nimble trail handing - Introducing the all-new Turbo Levo SL, the electric bike designed to completely redefine the modern MTB experience. With low weight, nimble handling and a 240watt power output, this will transform your perceptions of what is capable on an electric bike.

Specialized have been at the forefront of electric mountain bike development since their first models took to the stage, with other manufacturers seemingly being one step behind when it came to integration, reliability and on-trail performance. Although brands have since caught up, this new model marks a change in what was thought to be possible from an electric bike; a new benchmark, with the stigma associated with assisted riding thoroughly being left behind.

Taking all that Specialized learned from the Turbo Levo, Turbo Creo and Stumpjumper models, the Turbo Levo SL is designed with performance handling in mind.

"So light you'll forget it's electric"

The Turbo Levo SL paves the way as the lightest eMTB available by a wide margin, offering an unparalleled ride quality that mirrors the best qualities of the uber successful Stumpjumper. Whether climbing, descending or getting airborne, the Turbo Levo SL is designed to tackle technical terrain with a feel that previously only an analogue bike could provide, taking all-day epics and trail centre excursions in its stride and giving you an all new ride experience.

The details

  • 240-watt Specialized SL 1.1 motor
  • 320 Wh internal battery
  • Optional range extenders available
  • 29" wheels
  • 150mm travel
  • As light as 17.3kg
  • Carbon and aluminium options available
  • Short, 437mm chainstays

The Latest Technology: The Specialized SL 1.1 Motor

The Levo SL sees use of the 1.1 motor, as seen used to great effect on the Turbo Creo electric road bike. This compact and lightweight system is tuned to amplify rider input up to 240-watts and supplies 35Nm of both peak and sustained power, doubling your power output on the trail with a natural, smooth feel. How does this translate on the trail? Put the same effort in as on your standard mountain bike and you'll climb twice as far, earning you twice as much descending for the same amount of effort.

Almost Half the Weight

Through use of a magnesium casing the SL 1.1 motor comes in a whole 1kg lighter than its nearest competition, the Fazua Evation motor, and provides full-powered support through a wider cadence range. By using a gear rather than belt driven system the motor stays compact, visually being far more similar to the Stumpjumper than current Turbo Levo, a trait that will definitely leave riders double guessing when you pass them on the climbs. This low motor weight allows the S-Works Levo SL to come in at 4kg lighter than the S-Works Levo, a game-changing weight difference for those looking for the best experience possible on the descents.

This low weight comes at the cost of power, with the SL 1.1 motor offering around half the maximum assist of the 2.1 motor seen on Turbo Levo and Kenevo. In essence, the Levo SL offers a more purist mountain bike experience for the trade-off of overall power output, a choice that will suit many riders looking to make the switch to an electric model.

Battery and Capacity

All Turbo Levo SL models use the same 320Wh internal battery, providing up to 3hrs of ride time depending on the power mode and ride style. There are the same three power modes on offer from the current Turbo models, Turbo, Trail and Eco, with the option to use Specialized's fantastic Smart Control feature to ensure you the longest ride time available. Modes are changed through the TCU on the bikes top tube, allowing for adjustment on the fly. As with any eMTB, the less motor support used the longer the battery will last, with the lightweight design of the Levo SL ensuring that assist is not always necessary to enjoy the ride.

Range Extenders

Looking to go the distance? Specialized offer the same range extenders as seen on the Turbo Creo, with each unit adding an additional 2 hours of ride time. These are available as an aftermarket accessory adding flexibility to your ride options, ensuring that you can be equipped for everything from a session down the local woods to an all-day epic in the Alps. As standard, only the S-Works and Founders edition come with a range extender, with the latter receiving two in the box. Range extenders are plug-and-play, fitting into the equipped Zee cage and plugging into the charging socket through a supplied cable.

The standout feature: Handling

When it comes to electric bikes and performance cycling there is one big elephant in the room; handling. The added weight of a motor and battery setup results in poor cornering performance and a less than playful ride character when compared to an equivalent mountain bike. This all changes with the Turbo Levo SL, with the SL 1.1 motor being a compact and lightweight design that pits the bikes performance far closer to the Stumpjumper than Turbo Levo. specialized-turbo-levo-sl-frame

Specialized have cracked the last piece of the puzzle with the Levo SL, with the lightweight system ensuring that the Levo SL feels just like your favourite mountain bike on the trail. Coming in as light as 17.3kg, it weighs less than many burly enduro builds and feels nimble on the trail in comparison and puts itself in a whole class of its own when it comes to outright performance.

The Levo SL puts the power to ride more trails in your hands, combining a purist riding experience with the ability to ride twice as far. Want to learn more about the Levo SL? Head into your local Rutland cycling store to find out more from our expert staff.
