The cold autumn weather has forced many of us to retreat back inside to our pain caves; the turbos have been dusted off and the bike has become stationary. Spending hours inside on your bike doesn't have to be a chore, with the increase in popularity of smart turbos and Zwift, turbo training can be something to enjoy!

Fairly new to the turbo scene is Wahoo, Wahoo designed their products with every type of customer in mind. Built for every level of cyclist, the Wahoo turbo range gives everyone the opportunity to train with the most up to date technology available. In this blog we are going to take a look at the whole range of Wahoo turbos and accessories, all crafted to help you achieve your goals this winter!

Wahoo KICKR Snap

The first in the range of Wahoo turbo trainers is the KICKR Snap. This is Wahoo's only bike-on turbo trainer, meaning you will need to keep your back wheel on your bike to use this trainer, perfect if you aren't confident in removing your back wheel and quick to set-up. Despite being the first in the range, the Snap comes with many of the technologies seen in the more expensive models.

The Snap is Bluetooth, ANT, and ANT+ compatible meaning you can use this turbo for third-party apps such as Zwift, Trainerroad, The Sufferfest, and Rouvy, giving you the ability to control the resistance through your phone, tablet or computer. The Snap has LED lights to show when the turbo is on, connected and transmitting, giving you peace of mind that you are ready to start your session.

The Snap is constructed from carbon steel and is designed to have a wide stance, this means when you are training you can have full confidence in your turbo. The KICKR Snap does need to be plugged into mains to work so make sure you have a plug nearby before setting up!

Just like the Snap, the Core is compatible with Bluetooth, ANT, and ANT+, ideal for using with your third-party apps to make your sessions more enjoyable!

Thanks to the flywheel technology and advanced algorithms, the Core provides an accurate and quiet turbo trainer which is ideal for anyone planning on training inside their house. The large flywheel uses new algorithms to increase the responsiveness and mirror the feeling of riding on the road.

The KICKR comes with a pre-installed 11-speed cassette, RPM Cadence sensor, carry handle, and tire size height adjuster, allowing you to get riding as quickly as possible.

Alongside their range of turbo trainers, Wahoo have developed other technologies to work in conjunction with their turbos, making your session feel more like a road ride.

KICKR Headwind

As mentioned previously, the KICKR Headwind is compatible with the whole range of Wahoo Turbo's, but what exactly is it?

The KICKR Headwind is more than just a fan, the Headwind was created to replicate the wind speeds reached when descending the open road, whilst also cooling you down during the warmest of sessions. The Headwind connects directly with all smart trainers and can be controlled manually or programmed to match your training programme, heart rate monitor, speed sensors or adjusts to match your workout intensity.

What this means for you as the rider is that once you are seated on the bike, everything else is sorted for you. No more hopping on and off to adjust the fan and turning it down during your cool down, the Headwind allows you to fully focus on your session without overheating.

The KICKR HEADWIND is the first ever smart fan, designed with the cyclist in mind. It's Targeted Airflow Pattern mirrors the shape and position of a cyclist's body while riding. The KICKR HEADWIND is sensor controlled so as your speed or heart rate increases, so will the fan speed, and there are also 4 manual speed settings should you want to set your own ideal airflow.

  • Max fan speed- 30kmph
  • Connectivity- Connects to phone or heart rate monitor
  • Targeted airflow pattern
  • Manual speeds- 4

Alongside the Headwind, Wahoo have created the KICKR Climb. Attached via your front quick release skewer, the KICKR Climb raises and lowers your bike to match the ascents on your third-party app. With a maximum elevation of 20% and a maximum descent of -10%, the Climb takes you from staring at a mountain on a screen to actually riding it!

You don't need to use an online training platform to benefit from the Climb, the Climb gradient changes with the resistance of your smart turbo. With both the Climb and the Headwind, you can have a truly immersive riding experience.
