If you ask Mark Cavendish to describe Six Day Racing, his response is instantaneous: There's a whole ambience, it's a party with some cycling going on. It's a night out. Invented in 1878 in London, Six Day Racing was once the golden child of American spectator sports. The likes of Bing Crosby and Ernest Hemmingway were regular observers and Madison Square Gardens would sell out. Still popular in Europe, the Six Day star has waned over recent years in the UK with the last event taking place in 1980.
This October though, Six Day London is back. With a bang. With a world class field of riders, entertainment provided by the Ministry of Sound and a track centre bar, Six Day London is set to be a strong addition to the cycling and party calendars. Tickets available now at www.sixday.com with the event taking place between 18th October and 23rd October at Lee Valley VeloPark.
