The Apache Range
Rutland Cycling now stocks a new range of Apache bikes, affordable ebikes aimed at commuters to leisure cyclists, with the view to get more people out riding and enjoying cycling. It’s a greener, more enjoyable way to travel around and makes cycling accessible to everyone. With reasonably priced ebike models like the Wakita, Tocho and Tanka being the core of the offering but with E mountain bikes coming soon it's easy to see these bikes will be a massive hit with everyone.

“Take the Wakita home Chris, have a ride see what you think and do us a review on it.” Urm, yeah ok... Not really my kind of bike at all. I popped it in the boot nonetheless and after a few days of charging round town doing the maximum assisted speed of 15mph everywhere it struck me. Obviously not my kind of bike, but I know just who would suit it. My mum. A quick phone call later and I was on my way to drop off the bike.

A great enabler
It's almost identical to her current bike that she commutes to work on but of course this one is battery assisted. The initial response was great; “wow its fast!” and “it's no effort at all” as she flew up and down the street on a quick test ride. She has now joined my Dad (another keen cyclist) on a few loops of Milton Keynes and the assistance of the battery was perfect for keeping up and making it such an enjoyable leisurely cycle. She's keeping it for now, and delivering Christmas cards and running errands all over the place on it. I’m not sure she will want to give it back at this rate!

This is proof that Ebikes are such great enablers, with benefits for anyone riding them. It might speed up your commute, or allow you to explore further afield. It might just be the reason you get back on a bike. They are fantastic bits of kit and it's really exciting to see simple, well engineered Ebikes being made available to the masses.

Apache makes a great range of commuter and hybrid bikes to suit everyone. They aren’t dripping in bling but instead they have simple, functional components that just work. My mum doesn’t care how many gears it's got or what brakes it's got. She just wants to be able to pull it out of the shed and ride it. And that’s what this Wakita does, it just simply works.

Clever features
Don’t get me wrong though, it's got some well thought out features, like lights that run off the main battery and are operated very simply through the control panel on the bars. A luggage rack with built in straps for transporting things easily. Mudguards for those winter months and a handy kickstand. Oh and that battery is mighty impressive, 18 miles and only one bar out of five down!

It really is a great bike, simple, no nonsense fun for anyone and everyone. It unlocks such great potential to go further, faster and longer.
