    Giant Revolt 2019 Range Guide

Brand new for 2019, Giant have revamped their Revolt giving the range its first taste of carbon frames. With gravel-specific geometry and D-Fuse handlebar and seatpost system, the Giant Revolt is here and ready to shred.

This isn't their first rodeo, Giant's initial adventure into the gravel sector was with their Toughroad SLR GX and an aluminium version of the Revolt back in 2017. Giant have redesigned the bike for "versatility, compliance and long-distance efficiency on adventurous terrain including roads, gravel and dirt". Compared to the Cyclocross specific TCX, the Revolt has a taller stack and slightly more reach. The bottom bracket is lower for increased handling ability and the trail figure is higher for better handling.

    Quick Links

    Frame and Forks

The Giant Revolt is made from Advanced Grade Carbon Composite, built with a high stiffness-to-weight ratio the frame also comes with a flatter, more compact frame design with a lower seatstay junction, this means a more exposed seatpost which is created to give more compliance. The front triangle of the bike is created from a continuous piece of carbon, this technique is called Modified Monocoque Construction. Giant have redesigned this bike for "Versatility, compliance and long-distance efficiency on adventurous terrain including roads, gravel and dirt". Compared to Giant's Cyclocross ready TCX, the Revolt has a taller stack, slightly more reach, a lower PowerDrive bottom bracket and higher trail figures. What this all means is better handling when out riding on the rough roads.

The Revolt uses the same D-Fuse seatpost as other Giant comfort bikes. The D-Fuse was created to absorb shocks and vibrations, giving riders more control on variable terrain. The design gets its name thanks to the D shaped tubing, flat at the back and rounded at the front, Giant says this gives up to 12mm of flex. New for the Revolt, the D-Fuse technology is also seen in the handlebars. Compared to the Contact SL round handlebar, the D-Fuse has 10% more downward compliance and 30% more upward stiffness, ideal for any sprinting out of the saddle, and is 5% lighter than the Contact SL round bars. When paired together, the handlebars and seatpost add compliance to the two key contact points.

The forks are created from the same Advanced Grade Carbon Composite as the frame, this helps to absorb road shock and vibrations and allows for added tyre clearance of up to 45c. Also featured is Giant's OverDrive technology, OverDrive is an oversized fork steerer tube technology that provides more precise steering performance and stiffness. When this is added to the MegaDrive rectangular downtube and PowerDrive bottom bracket, you have a bike shape that yields unprecedented steering and pedalling.

    Groupset

Giant have chosen to stick with Shimano for their 2019 Revolt range starting at the 105 groupset for the Advanced 2 and Ultegra for the Advanced 0, both offer great value for money so it really depends on your budget which one you choose.

Both bikes come as 11 speed and Praxis cranksets, ideal for any climbing you may face on your off-road escapades.

    Wheels

The Advanced 0 comes with Giant CXR-1 Carbon wheels and the Advanced 2 comes with P-X2 wheels for the lower price point. The tyres fitted are both Giant CrossCut Gravel 1 for maximum grip in the dirt yet great for on the road.

The wheels come with 700x40mm tyres as standard but will fit up to a 45c tyre with plenty of clearance for mud and dirt.

    Brakes

On the Advanced 0 we have Shimano Ultegra Hydraulic Disc brakes for great stopping power and control when descending. On the Advanced 2 comes Giant Conduct SL Hydraulic Disc brakes
