At Rutland Cycling, we believe the future truly is electric – we’ve been selling electric bikes since the very first models entered the market in the 1990s and we’ve seen technology improve dramatically since then, with better motors, longer battery life and a greater choice of models.

Which brings us to 2017, and our dedicated E-Bike Centres which offer the UK’s widest range of quality electric bikes, with 75-100 models on display, supported by a full range of electric bikes online with free UK home delivery.

As interest in E-Bikes increases, and more people experience all the benefits which they can offer, we’re very excited to add another brand to our growing stable of electric bike brands – Kalkhoff.

Who are Kalkhoff?

Kalkhoff are a German brand who have been testing, developing and manufacturing bicycles at their facility in Cloppenburg since 1919. In the current day, this blend of traditional values and modern technology enables them to offer almost everyone the perfect bike that they’ll feel comfortable riding for many years, be it a city, touring, trekking or child’s bike. This vision is combined with a commitment to high-quality products with the highest standards of cycling comfort and user friendliness, and has led Kalkhoff to market-leadership for e-bikes and pedelecs in Germany. The Kalkhoff name has been held by Derby Cycle Holding GmbH - one of the largest bicycle manufacturers in the world and now owned by P.O.N Holdings - since the 1980’s.

What can you expect from Kalkhoff?

Kalkhoff use all of this accrued experience and e-bike expertise to get you to wherever you’re going quickly and safely - whether that be to work, into town, or touring – and develop innovative technology that simply allows you to relax as you pedal. Their products are geared more towards comfort, making them suitable for cyclists and non-cyclists at all levels, with most models specced with internal hub gears for ease of maintenance, and belt drives on some of the range.

Kalkhoff are somewhat different to other e-bike brands, in that as well as pairing their frames with motors and batteries from specialist manufacturers, the German brand develop both the chassis and the drive system of their e-bikes in-house allowing them to tailor them to the requirements of the customer better. So confident are Kalkhoff in the quality of their product that they offer a 10-year warranty on all their e-bike and S-Pedelec frames, and have extended the warranty on their Impulse motors to 3 years.

What are the key models?

Amongst the wide and varied range of e-bikes that Kalkhoff has to offer we’ve handpicked a few models in particular that we think will be a big hit, whether you’ve already been bitten by the e-bike bug or not!

Kalkhoff Jubilee Move B7

An entry-level model, the Jubilee Move B7 is set to become the cheapest Bosch-equipped e-bike available on the market. The 400wh Bosch PowerPack battery offers a range of up to 120km with the Active Cruise model kicking out 250 watts of assistance. Despite the low price point the Jubilee is equipped with the highly competent Shimano Nexus 7-speed hub gearing and Shimano Alivio V-Brakes, as well as a suspension seatpost and wide Schwalbe tyres for additional comfort around town. The stand out feature on this model though is its suitability for every rider – with 26” wheels, it should fit anyone over 5’ tall. Priced at £1,559.00, this looks set to be a really competitive offering for those new to e-bikes.
