We are delighted to be supporting the Pelargos Foundation as they embark on their 2,500 mile charity cycling challenge cycling at The Wine Bar Stamford this weekend (18th - 20th September), in aid of the British Liver Trust & Give Directly. Come down and support the team and enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine, as they attempt to ride nearly the equivalent of the Tour de France in under 40 hours.
In addition to the around the clock cycling, which starts at 8pm on Friday, there will be other events put on to help raise money for the charities:
- BBQ & Bake Off - Saturday 12pm - 4pm
- Pub Quiz - Sunday 8pm
- Raffle - Great prizes all weekend
Prizes include a signed England rugby shirt, tickets to Wembley, Rugby World Cup tickets, a tablet computer, clay pigeon shooting, riding lessons and much more!

Not Your Ordinary Supermarket Turbo Challenge
The ride isn’t simply your standard ‘supermarket static bike ride’ as the team will be making use of Zwift software. Zwift, which is still in Beta and for the time being is free to use, is a virtual reality, multiplayer online game, which claims to revolutionise turbo training and turn your mind-numbing, mundane turbo sessions into something much more sociable and enjoyable. All you need to do is create an account and then download the app, connect your turbo trainer and ANT+ speed and cadence sensors and you’ll be able to ride and race your friends, plus you can even chat to each other if you have a compatible headset. You can also add an ANT+ enabled power meter, if you have one, to make the platform’s capabilities expand into a highly realistic virtual riding experience.
The Pelargos Foundation
The Pelargos Foundation are a charitable foundation, founded in Stamford in 2014, which aim to raise money for worthy causes both within the UK and across the globe. These causes change annually to ensure they can have as much positive impact to the world as possible. They raise money for these causes by organising events, taking part in fundraising challenges and donating their time to help those in need.
A key aspect of their work is that they take no fee and subsidise the cost of running the charity. Every penny possible is given to the causes.
The ride this weekend will be in support of the British Liver Trust and Robert Owen, trustee of the Palergos foundation explains the reasoning behind the foundation supporting this fantastic cause:
“Liver conditions are all too often associated with people who drink too much alcohol and most people do not realise how many other conditions exist and affect hundreds of thousands of people in this country. Obviously drinking affects many people’s livers but with the continuing rise in diabetes, for example, many more will be in need of help regarding their liver health soon. Liver disease is already the fifth highest cause of death in the UK, after heart, cancer, stroke and respiratory disease but crucially it is the only one still on the rise.”
By supporting The British Liver Trust this year we are helping them in reaching over a million people through research, direct care and in raising awareness. The work they do and the personal connection it has to me is why the foundation has chosen to back this great charity!
