So, I never know where to start these things but I think for this one I need to start with a massive Thank you to Rutland Cycling for having me onboard as an ambassador this year. If not, then I wouldn’t have been given the opportunity to ride such a beautiful and capable little bike! After a few discussions with the guys at Rutland it was decided that the new Women’s Specific Trek Remedy 9.8 2018 would be the best option for me this year.

Previously I’ve ridden a Whyte T130 and most recently the Mondraker Dune and both of which were great bike but seemed to be lacking in something in one way or another. The Whyte was my first full suspension bike and when I bought it I didn’t really know the ins and outs so went for something I liked the look of. I rode it for over a year and progressed massively on it over that time and decided I wanted something a little more aggressive with longer travel, so switched over with Mondraker. The dune was a capable bike, offering longer travel and higher quality components, but the geometry didn’t seem to work too well for me and I was losing confidence rather than gaining.

With the Trek being a women specific model and the fact that it promises to be built with women in mind, perfectly built and versatile, allowing you to take your riding to the next level, I wasn’t too worried about the geometry as I am distinctly average for a female, being 5ft5 and small / medium build.

The first ride on the Trek was a real baptism of fire at Revolution bike park in Wales where I knew I would be able to break it in properly and set up my suspension over the course of the day.

The thing I noticed when I did my first run, (apart from the incredible noise of the bontrager hubs) was the grip of the All mountain Bontrager SE4 Team issue tyres, which I was initially concerned wouldn’t be up to the super steep and loose conditions but I was pleasantly surprised with how grippy and capable they were.

After a couple of runs, I had set up the suspension just right and I have no complaints with the Rockshox “Lyric” Forks and rear “aktiv” shock and 160mm of travel is more than enough.

From the fast flowy trails at Revolution bike park, back to the super tech, natural descents that we have on offer here in the lakes and the Trek wasn’t phased one bit and handled the climbs and descents of helvellyn with no problems at all.

Weighing in at a touch over 13kg and being made of carbon, its reasonably light in comparison to some other bikes on the market and certainly didn’t feel big and bulky when being thrown over my shoulders hiking up a mountain in 32’c. Then equally happy to be thrown down a mountain littered with rocks, streams and gullies. I can honestly say that I felt totally comfortable on some of the trickiest sections I’ve ever ridden and had confidence in the bike as I was able to move it around and throw it out in front of me with ease.

I honestly cannot sing this bikes praises enough, for the past two and half years I’ve been riding a bikes that at the time I thought I loved but riding the Remedy now, I realise the shortfalls on the previous bikes and the compromises I was clearly making.

Trek have clearly filled a gap in the market here, catering for the minority (women) with a versatile, aggressive and confidence inspiring machine which is not only a joy to ride, but is beautiful to look at! Bonus…

I got into riding two years ago when I was having a bit of a health kick. At the time I thought it would be a bit of a temporary phase and I may not enjoy it but I was very wrong and now here we are. I live in the Lake District so getting out and about in beautiful surroundings on fun trails was never going to be difficult.

I mainly ride enduro but do enjoy booking on uplifts and having a day of downhill. I’d love to find a spare weekend to head up to Fort Bill and ride the World Cup track and the Nevis range. Grizedale is my local ride so I’m not short of off piste trails and bridleways to enjoy in the forest and surrounding areas. This year I intend on using the lighter nights to get some more “hike a bikes” done on some of the bigger mountains. Scafell, Snowdon, Helvellyn and so on.

There is something special about the mountain bike community - you can ride somewhere and bump into someone along the way and within ten minutes you’d class them as a friend. I came into the MTB scene with very little knowledge of the sport and no friends with the same hobby, but very quickly met loads of lovely like minded people with the same passion. It’s no surprise I’m totally hooked!
