The Details

The Specialized Recon 1.0 mountain bike shoes take inspiration from Specialized's top-end shoes and apply those learnings to an affordable shoe. The Recon 1.0 mountain bike shoe from Specialized features Body Geometry design to ensure that these shoes are as comfortable as possible when riding, plus the triple velcro straps mean that you can get a secure and even fit across the top of your foot.

The Recon 1.0 is more about just comfort though, the sole is rated to a stiffness index of 6.0, which provides excellent power transfer from your foot into the pedals, and the tread on the bottom of the shoe features Specialized's "SlipNot" compound which means it has excellent grip when you find yourself having to push the bike up tricky climbs or rough terrain. The Specialized Recon 1.0 clipless mountain bike shoe is a versatile and lightweight trail shoe that happily takes on gravel riding too. It's comfortable, stiff and easy to walk in, and well-priced as well..

Brilliant features from Specialized's Recon range are uncomprimised even at this sub-£100 price point. Expect a really grippy sole, toe box flex that makes hike-a-bike a breeze, and a shape that's so comfy there's no need for breaking in..

Footwear Size Guide

Purchasing a pair of cycling shoes for the first time can lead to a lot of questions. We at Rutland Cycling have over 30 years of shoe fitting experience, so here are some key pointers to look out for when buying a new pair:

1. When deciding what size cycling shoes to get, go with your normal shoe size, as cycling shoes typically run true to size. However, if you’re normally between sizes, for example sometimes you go with a 9 and sometimes a 9.5, it’s recommended that you size up.

2. The best time to measure your feet, or to try shoes on is in the afternoon, as this is when they will be at their largest due to your feet naturally tending to swell throughout the day.

3. Cycling shoes are intended to wrap snuggly around the foot as they have been designed with a specific purpose in mind—pedaling. The goal is to try and provide as much lower leg and arch stability as possible and provide you with a stable pedaling platform.

4. With the cycling industry largely originating in Europe, European sizing is the typical standard. The best way to figure out a specific brand size is use a that brand’s conversion chart. However, below is general sizing conversion chart based off conventional UK shoe sizing.

Remember, all sizing information is a guide only. If you have any questions about bike sizing, our expert team is here to help. Call us on 0330 555 0080, use our Live Chat, or email us.
